Early Childhood Development Team (ECDT)

reaching our community through Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Devlopment Team (ECDT) began meeting in August 2024. The team is made up of church and preschool staff, lay leaders, and parents. This page is designed to keep you informed about the work and progress of the ECDT. Learn more about our purpose and our project schedule below.

Purpose of the ECDT

The purpose of this team includes:

  • Clarifying the role of the Early Childhood Education at FCLC
  •  Prepare to meet the changing needs of our community, our parents, and their childcare choices
  • To adapt and grow to meet the changing needs of our community (Facility and campus growth)

Questions we are Asking

As the team started to meet, we asked these important questions.

  • Are we still meeting the needs of our young families in the area?
  • What is the difference between a preschool and an Early Childhood Center?
  • How much space (square footage, rooms, room use, etc) would a new ECC building need? What about playgrounds (or outdoor classrooms)? What other unique spaces would be desired?
  • What safety measures need to be in place (now and into the future)?
  • What staffing would need to change and grow to meet the growing needs of child care in the area?
  • If we moved the preschool to a new facility on property, what could the old preschool building be used for? What are all the possibilities?

missionInsite reports

Insights about the growth in our community

Mission Insite is a demographics tool available through the Lutheran Church Extension Fund and the Northwest District. We received a copy of these reports in October 2024. They have helped us discern the types of families in our area, and the projected trends, which is useful in determining whether making changes to our preschool make sense at this time.

If you'd like a copy of these reports, please email DCE Tim Kaufmann.
